Well it has been a very slow year for my cakes. All most nothing to post. Home schooling was a little trying with the few cakes that I did do. But everything worked out.

My daughter's girl scout troop celebrated Girl Scout's 98th birthday so we make a cake, of course. I drew the outline for her and filled in a by the nose and chin and she did the rest of the stars. She is enjoying this so far all though her hand hurt early and the decorating took a bit longer than expected with her breaks.

I know it has been forever. It has been slow to say the least. Finally this week I had two cakes and for the life of me I never remember to take pictures. The first one was for my dad. He turn 60 this month. I have to say that I don't care for all the grave stone markers. We are still celebrating life on a birthday. I did make the traditional over the hill cake with a few extra's. One side, the clowns are all young and the other side of the hill the clowns are grey haired and in depends. Like I said I almost forgot to take pictures. So they are hurried. Sorry for the quality.

This little guy was made with Royal Icing. A thick consistency was used for the out line and a thin consistency for the inside. Don't think you are going to whip these up in one day. They need about 48 hours to dry!!!

Of course I dropped an flower in the middle and ruined the some what smooth surface just enough to make it noticeable. I just need to add the butterflies tomorrow and write the happy birthday and I'm done!

I need a new camera. This one hasn't worked well since my daughter dropped it. The case is cracked and the lens was off kilter. Darling DH got the lens working again. It works well enough. (He thinks)

I have officially started my sisters birthday cake. It is a plane old BC yellow cake. Off into the oven it goes.

Just for good measure I took picture of the butterflies that I hope to put on the cake. This is my first attempt at decoration with Royal Icing. I hope that they are sturdy enough to use at least one out of the 4 I made. They are not completely done. Now that I am look I just might scrap them and try again.

This is a cake I did for a guy that was leaving at my husband's job. Adam was hired on at the fire department and the guys at Ralph's work had an opinion about that and wanted to express that in a unique way. That is how this cake came about.

Busy, Busy, Busy. History just ate the time away today. I'll put up my Friday Shoot out and back to the books with the kid. Then off to the kitchen to start flowers for that cake.

Well, home schooling has just sucked the life out of free time this week. I was able to browse through a few cake books despite this.. The books that I was so excited to get from the library were disappointments. It was all fondant designs and if I haven't mentioned it before, no one here cares to much for fondant but every one LOVES butter cream. So trying not to do the same old thing with butter cream becomes a challenge.

My sister wants flowers on it. I really wanted to put some royal icing flowers on it. I have been informed that it isn't all that edible (grr) So butter cream it is. I will have photo's of it on Saturday, Sunday at the latest.

Raspberry Peach Cake

Raspberry Peach Cake

This is a cake for the raspberry lover. It has a hint of peach
flavor and very moist.

1 Yellow cake mix
1 1/2 cups Peach juice (save the peaches for garnish)
2 tsp Raspberry extract
1/3 cup Veg. oil
3 Eggs

Mix all the ingredients. Following baking directions on the cake
mix according to your pan size. Flavor your frosting with raspberry
extract. Cool cake before frosting. Garnish with peaches. A sprig of green (mint) would look good too.

Cake books

Hooray!
The cake book I have been waiting for is now available. Just in time for my sister's cake. I will get a full week to design and practice any new techniques. The photo's I took of the garden yesterday will be great colors for the cake. My sister likes tropical colors. The only down fall will be using butter cream frosting. She wants to eat the cake and can not stand fondant or gumpaste. So hopefully I can come up with something good.

First and for most MY AUNT ZAROGA ROCKS!! I have had no time to really dedicate to figuring out how to build a custom blog and she has provided me with a plethora of "quick tutorials" to get this blog up and running and to add all the cool tweaks to it to make it look good. She is up dating it often and hopefully here soon I will have been taught enough to run it on my so that she can concentrate on hers. Thank you so much!

Nothing to do with baking today. This is my inspiration for great pallet colors for flower on my cakes. I am posting another passion of mine. Surprise, gardening. So there was some sarcasm there. What can I say, it runs in the family : ")

I will post some pictures of the start of my first little garden. This was my birthday present from my husband and children. I didn't have to do anything but put the flowers where I wanted them. The removal of the sod was taken care of. For Mother's day I have been promised another garden on the other side of the house. It will be the biggest.

My house is in a new subdivision with little landscaping. There was a small bed by the walk with shrubs in it and a leaning tree (fore picture). I am sure you have seen these types before. So everything is small and hopeful by summer it will look a bit m ore filled in. In the fall I will add some spring bulbs to help it along.

This is our first cramped subdivision and although it is my husband and our least favorite place the kids are very happy here. My husband and I are no longer consumed with house projects and yard work and have quality time to spend with the kids. For the first time my 10 year old has a bunch of play mates close by. Our last house had one kid that was his age but they didn't get along that well after a year or so and my daughter had no one her age. The closest was 3 years older than her. So here we are.

I figure by the time we get around to getting a place that my husband and I will truly enjoy we will be to old to take care of it.

Banana muffins

Here is something quick and simple.

Banana muffin recipe with a peanut butter topping. Makes 12 muffins.

Preheat oven to 400 F

Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cupsugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup vegetable oil - (I use canola)
3/4 cup mashed banana
1/2 cup chopped walnuts. (have yet to add this.)

Grease 12 cup muffin pan or 24 of the mini.
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a medium bowl;
make a well in the center.

Mix milk, egg, oil, banana and walnuts in a small bowl.
Pour mixture into well.

Mix batter just until moistened; do not over mix.

Spoon batter into prepared muffing cups.
Bake until a a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean or until muffins are golden brown, about 15 minutes.

Now the topping original recipe

1 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup butter at room temp
4 cups powder sugar
1/4 cup whipping cream.

Blend peanut butter and butter till smooth.
gradually blend in the whipping cream till nice and fluffy.

I dumped the powder sugar (no powder sugar, great on chocolate cake though)
and used a little less than 1/2 cup butter more like a 1/3
I upped the whipping cream to 1/2 cup I eye balled it. I just kept pouring till it started fluffing up. : )

There is nothing much today. I am watching the hits on Cakecentral.com. I am up to 313 views but still no advice as to traveling tips or building tips for the Topsy Turvy cake.

I am finding that I no longer want to eat my cakes but I feel like decorating.

I made banana muffins yesterday and whipped up a peanut butter topping to decorate with. : ) My son scrapes it off. What a waste of good peanut butter!!!

Well it is back to the books. Home schooling is time consuming. I am hoping that the weather man is right today and we get a few thunderstorms to add drama to the day.

My birthday cake

This is my birthday cake. A topsy turvy made by me. I have been eying this cake on Cakecentral.com for a while now and what better time to make?! : )

The bottom tier is a marble cake, yellow and Chocolate. The rest is all deep dark chocolate cake. You need coffee after every bite. mmmm

Now that I have built my first ever tier cake. I have no clue how to transport it!!

No goodies today. Just shear delight in the day. It has stopped raining!! I am seeing more flowers and I am ready to get out of the house. If it wasn't for the fact it is still a bit chilly I would be. : )

I found a new flower pattern to follow and they turned out pretty good for the first go around. I can load them up with frosting or keep it down. I think the frosting was a bit to wet as they seemed to melt a bit.

The guys at Ralph's work said they were almost to pretty to eat. Thanks guys!
